我区是全国主要蔗糖生产基地之一,近年来,甘蔗种植面积逐年扩大,现已种植了二百多万亩。我区种植甘蔗有着较好的气候条件,但有些年份出现低温霜冻,造成甘蔗大面积受害,使蔗糖生产遭到较大的损失。自解放以来。曾于1954、1975年冬季发生全区性的甘蔗重冻害。1982年冬又发生一次全区性冻害,甘蔗重冻害面积达49.27万亩,约占甘蔗种植面积的22％。甘蔗受重冻害后,糖分显著下降。据统计,1982年压榨的原料糖比1981年多172万吨,由于冻害和其他因素的综合影响,甘蔗含糖份下降1.44％,产糖率下降1.57％,少产糖九万二千多吨,
