In order to comprehensively understand the characteristics of the occurrence, development and distribution of syphilis in China, and to provide a scientific basis for formulating countermeasures for the control of syphilis, we used uniform methods, procedures, and forms for monitoring sites in 38 cities across the country from 1990 to 1994. The investigation of the incidence of syphilis for five consecutive years. A total of 5,078 cases of syphilis were found, accounting for 1.34% of the STD, with an average annual incidence of 0.94 per 100,000, an average annual growth rate of 23.06%, and an average annual incidence of 1.09/10 men. The average annual incidence of women is 0.75 per 100,000. China’s current prevalence is mainly early syphilis, accounting for 94.70%, of which a period of syphilis is 20.16%, secondary syphilis is 46.51%, early recessive syphilis is 28.10%; in addition, tertiary syphilis is 2.10 %, congenital syphilis is 0.70%. The incidence rates of the 20 to 29 and 30 to 39 age groups were the highest, 1.80/100,000 and 1.56/lakh respectively. The incidence rate of the individual, the unemployed, and the driver from the job analysis is the highest. The regions with high incidence of syphilis in China are Xinjiang, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Tianjin in the north, and some tourist cities in Fuzhou, Guilin, Hangzhou, Nanning, and Haikou in the south. In particular, southern cities have seen a clear upward trend in recent years. The author believes that: we must continue to monitor the epidemic of syphilis in China, strengthen the diagnosis and treatment of syphilis, and strengthen the production and supply of long-acting penicillin preparations to ensure the development of syphilis control.
