This standard complements the guidelines and requirements for programmable digital devices in IEEE Std 603 TM. The programmable digital devices mentioned in this standard rely on software instructions or programmable logic to perform their functions. For example: a computer, programmable hardware components, or firmware devices. Systems using these devices are also referred to as digital security systems in this standard. The standards in the standard are associated with IEEE Std 603 and set the minimum functional and design requirements for programmable digital devices as part of a safety system.
