棕榈科植物具有修长的树干和华丽的叶片,这使它们看上去和其他阔叶树有所不同。世界上存在着3000多种棕榈植物,并且它们中的大多数都生活在世界上的温暖地区。一些棕榈植物长得很低,接近地面,而长得最高的棕榈植物可高达40多米。它们的叶片坚韧、持久并且可能有数米长。棕榈植物对于野生动物来说十分重要。鸟类可以在它们的树叶间建巢;它们的果实被所有种类的动物所食用,范围从猴子到盗蟹(或称椰子蟹)。人类也同样为了食用其果实而种植它们。
Palm plants have slender trunk and ornate leaves, which make them look different from other broad-leaved trees. There are over 3,000 palm plants in the world, and most of them live in warm regions of the world. Some palm plants grow very low, close to the ground, while the highest-grown palm plants can be as high as 40 meters. Their leaves are tough, long lasting and may be several meters long. Palm plants are very important to wildlife. Birds can nest between their leaves; their fruits are consumed by all kinds of animals, ranging from monkeys to crab crabs. The same is true of human beings who planted them for their fruit.
