在攻克老年性慢性气管炎的群众运动中,全国各地发现许多杜鹃花属植物对气管炎有较好的疗效。如广东的紫花杜鹃、红花杜鹃、华丽杜鹃,东北的兴安杜鹃(满山红),经过反复临床验证,疗效显著。为提取分离这些中草药的有效成分,北京、黑龙江、广东及其他地区的医药工作者做了大量的工作。从紫花杜鹃中分离出紫花杜鹃甲素,药理试验有止咳作用,并经中国医学科学院药物研究所鉴定,其结构为5,7-二羟基-6,8-二甲基-4′-甲氧基双氢黄酮,即
