仇鳌是同盟会元老、辛亥革命元勋,是湖南和平解放的主要推手。新中国建立之初,他上书毛泽东,是民主人士中直言反腐第一人。有《半肺老人吟草》诗集传世,该诗集是呈现近现代中国与湖南历史风云的重要史料,是了解部分近现代历史人物的一个特别注脚,也是深入剖析仇鳌思想的第一手资料,可以说,《半肺老人吟草》不仅是仇鳌一生经历与思想的艺术结晶,更是一个时代的缩影,堪称“史诗”。
