At present, in some developed countries, such as the United States, Germany, Japan, and Russia, the cycle of textbook use is implemented. The average service life of American textbooks is five years, and Japan is ten years. However, the useful life of our textbooks is only six months. Starting from the new semester in 2008, provinces such as Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanxi will begin to implement the recycling of some textbooks in the compulsory education phase. This initiative has brought unprecedented challenges to students’ “book habits of traditional books” and has become a hot spot for everyone’s attention. The benefits of circular recycling of textbooks are self-evident. It is not only an environmental protection undertaking but also a concrete action to build a conservation-minded society. At the same time, it can reduce the burden on the government and the family. However, there are some problems and difficulties in the early use of recycled teaching materials. The guests invited in this issue, on the basis of fully affirming the positive significance of recycling textbooks, have also raised a number of concerns and suggestions.
