传教士形象的塑造是当代中国作家西方想象的一种具体化。通过对圣经故事的化用,莫言为他的文学王国增添了马洛亚这样一个新人,从而把神圣的宗教情怀和现代的人文精神引入到历史性叙事的观照中,生成了小说文本宽广的精神空间。刘震云笔下的牧师老詹的超越性与马洛亚的绝望性构成互文,成为现实中重返人道主义和自我拯救的一个中介。作为有意义的异国他者形象,二者所展开的开放性对话,为当代文学创作的价值重构提供了一种可能的文化借鉴。
The image of missionaries is an embodiment of the Western imagination of contemporary Chinese writers. Through the use of biblical stories, Mo Yan added a new Marlowe to his literary kingdom, introducing sacred religious feelings and modern humanistic spirit into the historical narrative and generating a broad spirit of the novel space. Liu Zhenyun’s transcendence of pastor Lao Zhan and Malo’s despair constitute mutual intertextuality and become an intermediary in reality to return to humanitarianism and self-salvation. As a meaningful image of the other continent, the open dialogue between the two provides a possible cultural reference for the value reconstruction of contemporary literary creation.
