1. Various types of vocational education and training at all levels have made great strides. In 2004, there were about 14,500 secondary vocational schools nationwide with 5.66 million enrolled students and 14,090 students enrolled. There were 1,047 higher vocational and technical colleges, of which 872 were vocational and technical colleges, and 2.37 million enrolled students , 5970000 students in school. In 2004, there were 1657 civilian-run secondary vocational schools nationwide with 525,000 students enrolled and more than 1.1 million students enrolled in schools. The number of institutions, enrollments and students in private secondary vocational schools nationwide accounted for 10.9%, 9.2% and 7.9% of the total secondary vocational education respectively. 217 private higher vocational schools, enrollment of 297,000 students in school
