孟兆祯教授气宇轩昂的气质,精神矍铄的外表给我留下了深刻的印象。而他对科学的执著、艺术的精通和对国家、社会的责任感更令人称道。从少年时代起,孟兆祯痴迷中国京剧艺术,为了看京剧,他省吃俭用,常常从每月仅有的10元生活费中挤出钱来买戏票。正是对京剧艺术的喜爱,给孟兆祯打下了坚实的中国传统文化的底子。
Professor Meng Zhaizhen imposing noble temperament, shrewd appearance left a deep impression on me. His dedication to science, his proficiency in art, and his sense of responsibility toward the country and society are even more commendable. Since his youth, Meng Zhaizhen was obsessed with Chinese opera art. In order to see Beijing opera, he was economically frugal and often squeezed money out of the monthly subsistence bill of 10 yuan to buy theater tickets. It is the love of Peking Opera art that has given Meng Zhaizhen the solid foundation of Chinese traditional culture.
