本研究以《英国国家语料库》为基础,采用计量语言学的方法,探讨了英语词长和词汇意义之间的关系,验证了相关理论假设和数学模型。研究结果证实了A ltm ann等提出的词汇义项数取决于词汇长度的假设和W imm er&A ltm ann提出的词汇同义词数取决于词汇长度的假设。研究结果同时表明,幂律函数模型y=Ax-b能够很好描述词汇义项数与词长之间的关系,但是复合函数模型y=Axbecx不能准确描述同义词数与词长的关系,就英语而言,三次曲线函数模型y=a+bx+cx2+dx3能很好地拟合观测数据。
Based on “National Corpus of England”, this study adopts the method of econometrics to explore the relationship between the word length of English and the meaning of words and verify the relevant theoretical assumptions and mathematical models. The result of the study confirms the hypothesis that the number of word meaning items proposed by A ltm ann et al. Is dependent on the lexical length and the number of lexical synonyms proposed by W imm er & A ltm ann depends on the lexical length. The results also show that the power law model y = Ax-b can well describe the relationship between the number of word terms and the word length, but the composite function model y = Axbecx can not accurately describe the relationship between the number of synonyms and the word length. Well, the cubic curve function model y = a + bx + cx2 + dx3 can well fit the observed data.
