A report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations pointed out that nearly half of the world’s major marine fishery resources have reached or are close to the fishing limit. Therefore, the amount of catches should be reduced and aquaculture should be actively developed. In its Report on the Status of Aquaculture and Fishing in the World, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization noted that 16% of the world’s major marine fishes have been overfished; another 6% of marine fishes are almost extinct and harvested; and less than 3% Fish are in a slow recovery process.
