The Greek electric field monitoring project manager said that the scientists at the University of Athens engaged in the monitoring project made a prediction of the earthquake that occurred on May 22, 1988, in Cephalonia. Professor Panayotis Varotsos, a physicist who developed the earthquake prediction method in the early 1980s, said this is the second truly accurate prediction made within a week by this method. In a meeting with an Associated Press reporter, “Last night we telegraphed to the Council of Earthquake Co-Ministerial Committee on Earthquakes. In the telegraph, we forecasted the time-strength of today’s earthquakes.”
