The school bus system in the United States took its form in 1939 when Frank W.Cyr,from the New Yorkbased Teachers College of Columbia University,organized a national standards conference for school transportation.Representatives of education and transportation departments from all 48 states,together with school bus manufacturers,attended the 7-day meeting.They worked out 45 standards and rules conceing school bus safety,specifying in detail school bus length,roof height,aisle width,etc.
