苏联政府最近提出的关于举行东西方最高级会议的新建议,打动了各国的人心,发挥了巨大的威力。可是,死硬的美英帝国主义分子却十分害怕这个建议一旦实现会使国际局势和缓下去,从而影响到大资本家们的腰包。美国国务卿杜勒斯对苏联的新建议所激发起来的和平热情,悍然采取了泼冷水的态度。英国首相麦克米伦虽然看起来还没有杜勒斯那么顽固不化,但是也紧跟着美国的脚步讲了一番泄气话。他在最近一次保守党的集会上也冷冷地说,“我们不应该对最高级会议抱过高的期望”,又说“现在正是应该利用我们讨价还价的地位的
The recent proposal by the Soviet government to hold the most senior-level meeting between the East and the West has touched people’s hearts and exerted great power. However, the die hard British and British imperialists are very much afraid that if this proposal is implemented it will slow the international situation and thus affect the pockets of the big capitalists. The pro-peace enthusiasm inspired by the new proposal of the U.S. Secretary of State Dulles on the Soviet Union has flagrantly taken a cold-blooded attitude. Although British Prime Minister Macmillan does not appear to be as stubborn as Dulles, he has also followed the example of the United States for some discouragement. At a recent Conservative rally, he also said coldly: “We should not hold too high an expectation on the summit,” and said "it is time to take advantage of our bargaining position
