研磨,是一种磨粒处于游离状态的磨削加工方法。这种方法存在着加工效率低、作业条件差、控制性差(需要熟炼工人)等问题。为此,日本东京大学生产技术研究所的谷泰弘,提出了“游离磨粒固定化”的设想,并进行了实验研究,从而开发出一种“供应时为固定磨粒、使用时为游离磨粒”的磨粒密度极高、结合度极低的研磨砂轮。 这种砂轮是以藻朊酸钠或羧甲基纤维素等高分子物质作为结合剂,利用EPD(Electrop Phoretic Deposition,电气泳动附着)现象制造而成的。如图所示,
