龙列生肖第五位。它能飞天入渊、兴云布雨。实际上龙是中华民族丰富想象力的产物和象征。龙被列为“四灵”之首,在五行中代表东方,被称之为青龙,与西方白虎相对称。在古代它是帝王的化身,权力的代表,在人们的意识中,它具有旺盛活力和阳刚之气。它早就成为华夏民族崇拜的图腾。《左传集解》中说:太昊伏羲氏有龙瑞,故以龙命官。民俗中又有“龙生九子”之说,是说它们不但种类不同,且名称性格各异。在神魔小说《西游记》、《柳毅传书》中描写了各具性格的四海龙王形象。
