钛合金材料攻螺纹特别是小孔攻螺纹十分困难。主要表现在攻螺纹时的总扭矩大约为45#钢的2倍,由于钛合金弹性模量小,切削时回弹大,易出现“抱锥”,使摩擦扭矩增大,而造成丝锥常常崩齿或扭断。钛合金材料的攻螺纹是在半封闭状态下切削,切削液难以到达切削区,散热润滑效果差。解决钛合金材料攻螺纹的关键是减少攻螺纹时丝锥与工件的接触面积。丝锥结构可从以下几个方面进行改进:
