《布特哈志略》为西布特哈总管公署旗务科长、达斡尔人孟定恭所纂修,民国二十年(1931)出版,是布特哈建治以来第一部,也是唯一的一部专门记述原布特哈自然、社会和人文的历史与现状的资料性著述。全书只有3万字左右,但选材精当,收进了许多价值较高的史料。书名虽为《志略》但珍贵史料并不略。在收入的人物中,有一些笔贴式、书记员、劝学员、小学教员等下层人物。对山川、物产和移民实边等新鲜事物,以热情洋溢的笔调寓颂扬于事实记述之中。且用语精粹,言简意赅,文采甚佳,使人读来回味无穷。给人以一鸣惊人之感。本文试就其史料价值谈点看法。
