一回纥的兴起维吾尔族在《旧唐书》中称回纥,它源出突厥语族的铁勒(又名高车)。是我国蒙古草原上的兄弟游牧民族。北魏时期,铁勒的中心驻地在鄂尔浑河流域上游,不久,以乌护氏族为主的部落西迁天山之北,是为西支;以袁纥(又作韦纥)氏族为主的部落则北迁到土拉河以北至色楞格河流域,是为东支。西魏到北周期间(535—581年),以阿尔泰山为中心的突厥人兴起以后,以袁纥为主的东支铁勒人民即处在突厥贵族统治之
