Energy Daily, October 10, 2015 According to the latest research, while fusion reactors may become economically viable for power generation in the coming decades, policymakers should start planning to build nuclear fusion reactors to replace conventional nuclear power plants. Researchers at Durham University and Oxford Coulomb Fusion Energy Center in Oxfordshire, England, have re-examined the economics of nuclear fusion and for the first time reviewed the advances in superconductivity. They analyzed aspects such as the construction, operation and decommissioning of power stations. The results show that nuclear fusion energy is economically feasible compared to conventional nuclear fission power generation. This research paper, published in the Journal of Nuclear Fusion Engineering and Design, is based on earlier findings. The survey found
