湘玉７号是中国农科院长沙现代化研究所用自交系４７８作母本，Ｈ１５２作父本育成的紧凑型玉米单交种，已被列为国家“九五”重点推广品种。我们于１９９７年引进湘玉７号的父、母本种源，在红壤旱地上进行秋季高产制种技术探索试验，于１９９８年秋季进行了总计３．３３ｈｍ
