位于博湖县境内的博斯腾湖,是自治区境内最大的内陆淡水湖,也是我国最大的内陆淡水湖。总面积约1000平方公里,蓄水量约100亿立方米左右。’湖上连开都河,下接孔雀河,犹如一块绿色的宝石,镶嵌在秀美的焉者盆地,故有“西塞明珠”的美称。湖区芦苇、树木丛生。特别是芦苇的出产量很大,每年入冬湖上结冰后,博湖、焉耆、和硕、库尔勒等地的群众纷纷割运,到翌年春暖冰开,只能刻下一部分。到底这里每年可以出产多少芦苇,至今还是个未知数。芦苇是经济价值很高的野生植物资源,既可作建筑材料、造纸原料,又可制造粘胶纤维。如与棉、毛、丝、麻混纺,织成柔韧漂亮的纺织品,供应市场。
