赣南是个劳多,田少的山区,山地面积4700余万亩,占全区土地总面积的77.5％,据一九八一年统计,农村人平耕地1亩,山地8.32亩,劳平耕地2.8亩,山地23.27亩。山地的潜力很大。赣南又是我国南方水土流失严重的地区之一,据地区水保办最近统计,有水土流失面积2008万余亩,占山区面积的42.6％,其中以兴国、赣县、南康、赣州市等县(市)的大多数社队和于都、宁都、广昌、石城、瑞金、信丰、大余等部分社、队比较严重。兴国、南康、赣州市三县(市)已是严重的少林缺林(柴)县(市)。
