电波研究所研制的扩展频谱随机存取(SSRR)通讯系统,具有测距功能并且也能提供稳定的多卜勒偏移信号。距离变化率可由多普勒偏移信号求得。利用这些功能,研制成的扩展频谱距离和距离变化率(SSRR)测量设备与SSRR结合运用,以实现对卫星的距离和距离变化率的测量和纪录。并且还提供了有关数据即接收的信标信号电平、极化角和天线指向(A_z,E_l)的记录功能。自从1973年3月以来,SSRR已经正式用于测量和记录ATS—1卫星的距离及距离变化率。通过研究和实验已经证实,其距离和距离变化率的均方根测量误差分别为60厘米和1—10厘米/秒。
