Trionyx sinensis is the dominant aquatic resource in the Xiaolinghe River Basin and is listed as one of the key wildlife in Liaoning Province. It enjoys high reputation both at home and abroad due to its high nutritional, medicinal and economic value. Since the 1980s, man-made unrestrained fishing has come to the verge of extinction.
