Since the reform and opening up, the PRD and the Yangtze River Delta have undergone several rounds of competition. At first they were the Pearl River Delta, represented by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in the 1980s. Driven by the external factors in Hong Kong and Maucao, economic development has taken a historic turn. In the 1990s, marked by the development and opening up of Pudong in Shanghai, the Yangtze River Delta has stepped into a brand new development period that has rejuvenated its glory and led the trend. Its economy has developed rapidly and achieved a qualitative leap. Into the 21st century, the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta fly together, a north-south show Dragon Tiger leap forward situation. From the accomplishments of the major indicators in the first quarter of 2003, the Yangtze River Delta is completely beyond the PRD. Some even put forward the view that “the Yangtze River Delta is overwhelming and the PRD is threatening the prosperity of the PRD.” The purpose of this article is to compare the differences between the two triangular regions Looking forward to the prospects of the two places, as a “lead jade”, I hope to arouse readers’ deeper thinking on the issue of “integration of the Yangtze River Delta.”
