Cosner Residences and Studios are located on the outer ridges of the historic city center of Castelrotto, northern Italy, and consist of two blocks overlooking the valley in the distance. The two similar wooden structures were joined at the ridge and tightly wedged into the houses of the owner-artist Hubert Costner and the nearby traditional wood-stone structures. At first glance, this work seems to be incompatible with the quaint surroundings, but closer look, MoDus Architects cleverly combines traditional style and contemporary architecture. The article introduces the history of the building as well as the new project at Costner House and Studio, demonstrating architectural inspiration and triggering unexpected cultural forms.
