本文对实践伦理学的产生的历史背景、发展状况、学科性质、理论地位、研究对象和子学科分类进行了阐发,提出萌芽于20、30年代,发展于70、80年代的实践伦理学,是继产生于19世纪末,20世纪初的描述伦理学和20世纪初至60、70年代的元伦理学之后的西方伦理学理论的第三个分化;提出实践伦理学的学科性质就在于它的边缘性、综合性和应用性;提出实践伦理学以由于社会生活特别是科学技术的飞速发展所带来的急剧变动所引起的前所未有的道德境遇中面临到的以地域性或民族性体现出来的全球性道德问题为对象。
