制式转换是一种被大多数美国广播工程师几乎忽视的处理过程。这主要是因为它传统上用于把外国电视节目材料转换为当地制式播出。在将来，随着ＨＤＴＶ（高清晰度电视）的逼近，工程师们有必要精通制式转换的概念和硬件。电视台进入ＨＤＴＶ领域的第一步很可能是用现行的ＮＴＳＣ节目馈给，经由制式转换器再送入新的ＨＤＴＶ发射机。
Standard conversion is a process almost overlooked by most U.S. broadcast engineers. This is mainly because it has traditionally been used to convert foreign television program material to local format broadcasts. In the future, with the approach of HDTV, engineers have a need to master the concepts and hardware of the conversion. The first step a television station enters the HDTV space is likely to be fed back to a new HDTV transmitter via a standard converter using the current NTSC feed.
