The practicality of the geological classification of silt works lies in a wide range of surveys of the geological and engineering geology at the bottom of the world’s oceans, the construction of booming hydraulic structures, and the widespread distribution of silt and its unique properties. At present, engineers working on submarine sediments in submarine, coastal and deepwater (ocean) uses a variety of different classifications. In a large number of literatures including underwater sediment reviews, there is no consensus on the engineering geology assessment of underwater sediments, and terminology is confused. In the general engineering geological classification of soils, silt is either listed as “uncontained” and has special status and properties.
