During the Second World War, Japan launched the Pacific War to realize its southward strategy. By virtue of its own force, Japan has imposed more than three years of military occupation in Southeast Asia. During the occupation, the Japanese government imposed different occupying policies on different countries and regions in Southeast Asia. This article intends to explain the inherent causes and characteristics of this policy through the analysis of the Japanese occupation policy, the relationship between the occupation policy and Japan’s overall military strategy and its impact on the political and economic development of Southeast Asian countries.
