董必武是中国共产党的创始人之一。建国伊始,他担任政务院副总理,率领接收工作委员会华东工作团前往南京、上海等地,经过一个多月的艰苦工作,胜利完成了任务。董必武总是把自己视为人民公仆,以党和人民的“老牛”自勉,他常说:“我们的党是为群众利益服务的,如果不为群众服务,还要组织共产党干什么?”他赋诗吟唱:“革命原非为个人,支持群众得翻身。”
