Introduction The basic metabolic processes of malignant cells and normal cells are very similar, making the design of chemotherapeutic drugs that target cancer cells difficult. Ideal chemotherapeutic drugs should be selectively incorporated into malignant cells and inhibit the replication and division of malignant cells with a high degree of specificity. The use of differences in the rate of DNA replication between normal and malignant cells may be a productive approach. The function of DNA polymerases is to copy base sequences and their pure products have now been obtained from various animals and inhibitors of these enzymes are expected to design valuable inhibitors of cancer chemotherapy.
