严歌苓是海外华人文学的代表人物,她的很多作品都致力于探讨中西文化的碰撞与融合,她以较之前海外华人文学更加冷静和客观的态度,通过叙述东西方不同民族在交流中产生的问题,通过描写东方女人与西方男人的异族爱情故事,对中西两种文化都分别表现出欣赏和批判的态度,表达了以一种在美好人性的沟通中实现两种文化平等互动的理想。但是这种理想将一个复杂的问题简单化了,仍然没有打破双方不平等的局面,在目前的条件下是无法实现的。
Yan Geling is the representative of overseas Chinese literature. Many of her works are devoted to exploring the collision and integration of Chinese and Western cultures. She narrates the problems arising from the exchanges between different ethnic groups in the East and the West in a more calm and objective manner than before overseas Chinese literature . By describing the love story of the interracial couple between the oriental woman and the western man, both of the two cultures show appreciation and criticism respectively. They expressed their ideal of realizing the equality and mutual interaction of the two cultures in the communication of good human nature. However, this ideal simplifies a complicated issue and still fails to break the inequality between the two sides and can not be achieved under the current conditions.
