1950年6月25日,朝鲜战争爆发。战火迅速烧到鸭绿江边,中国面临“唇亡齿寒”的危险。10月8日毛泽东主席发布命令,将东北边防军组成中国人民志愿军支援朝鲜人民军作战。抗美援朝、保家卫国成为当时全国人民的中心任务,也理所当然成为新生的中国红十字会的中心工作。国际医防服务队组织起来,肩负神圣的使命开赴朝鲜战场。
June 25, 1950, the Korean war broke out. The war quickly burned to the edge of the Yalu River, China faces a “lip cold teeth” danger. On October 8, Chairman Mao Zedong issued an order that the Northeast Frontier Defense Forces be formed into a Chinese People’s Volunteer Army to support the Korean People’s Army.
