The aim of this study was to identify novel gene loci that influence the hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy in the antihypertensive response. A total of 1739 white hypertensive patients from 6 clinical trials of the International Antihypertensive Drug Genomics Research Consortium were enrolled in a genome-wide meta-analysis of the hydrochlorothiazide antihypertensive response. In addition, the researchers performed gene-based analyzes of candidate genes that previously had evidence of their involvement in diuretic responses, blood pressure regulation, or hypertension predisposition. Based on the genome-wide meta-analysis and the validation among African-Americans, two GJA1-binding genes and the truncated box protein
