Although earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Volvo announced the V40 is equipped with pedestrian airbags and pedestrian detection system, but until recently, Volvo only to the relevant data and principles publicized. According to previous survey data, among the death toll from traffic accidents in China, pedestrian death toll accounted for 25% of the total, while in Europe and the United States, the figure was 14% and 12% respectively. The survey also found that the number of pedestrians injured in an accident was far higher than the number of deaths. In many traffic accidents, serious pedestrian head injuries mainly come from the hard structure of the lower end of the car hood, the lower edge of the windshield and the A pillar section. Taking into account these factors, Volvo Cars began to develop pedestrian airbag technology.
