Objective To understand the situation of acute critical illness in officers and soldiers of Nanshaogou Island and to analyze the relationship between acute critical illness and the environment in this area and provide the basis for the prevention and treatment of acute critical illness in Nansha island soldiers. Methods According to the classification of diseases, statistics were made on the distribution of acute critical illness in 800 subjects held by a certain Nansha Prefecture from January 1999 to December 2009. According to different positions of officers and soldiers divided into island group (keep the island period) and the land group (in the land during the period), combined with relevant data analysis Nansha island officers and soldiers of acute critical illness incidence of the disease. Results The top 5 emergency attendants of the medical system in the island group and the land group were all acute injuries caused by physical damage, acute poisoning, respiratory emergency, digestive emergency and circulatory emergency. However, the composition ratio of acute illness in the two groups was not exactly the same. The respiratory rate of the island group was 14.0%, significantly higher than that of the land group (8.7%) (P <0.01). The acute poisoning rate was 25.6% in the island group and 13.9 (P <0.01). The composition ratio of acute pneumonia, acute chemical poisoning and acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding in the island group were significantly higher than those in the land group (P <0.01) ). Conclusion The characteristics of acute disease on the island medical system are different from those on the land. The reasons may be related to the high temperature, high humidity and high salt environment in the South China Sea.
