一、INTRODUCTION选文简介: 《折磨与期待》(Affliction and Expectation)选自美国作家路易斯·萨查尔(Louis Sachar)的小说《洞穴》(Holes)。本段选自小说的第十章。在上一期选文当中,我们知道主人公斯坦利因被误认为是小偷而被抓往绿湖营“劳改”。他和其他“劳改”的孩子都要在河床上挖洞。本篇选文一开始描写了斯坦利因为挖洞而浑身疼痛,因而久睡不起。但挖洞是命令,“令来如山倒”。他的皮肤被太阳灼伤,但还得继续干下去。他简直不敢想以后的日子。
I. Introduction of INTRODUCTION: “Affliction and Expectation” is selected from the novel “Lotus Sachar” (Holes) by the American writer. This paragraph is selected from the tenth chapter of the novel. In the previous issue, we learned that Stanley, the hero, was arrested for being a thief and was arrested at Green Lake Camp. He and other “labour reformers” have to burrow on the bed. This selection begins with a description of Stanley’s pain as a result of digging holes, which means that she can’t afford to sleep for a long time. But burrowing is an order, “makes a mountain down”. His skin was burned by the sun, but he must continue to dry. He could not even think of the days to come.
