Fifty-three male workers were selected for manganese work and 39 were control workers. Reproductive toxicity research was conducted on male manganese workers. The results showed that there were significant differences in the time of semen liquefaction, sperm motility and sperm deformity between male workers and control group (P <0.05). Sperm count and sperm motility were significantly higher than those in the control group (P <0.01). There were also significant differences in the levels of sex hormones between seminal plasma and serum as compared with the control group (P <0.05). This indicates that manganese may have a direct effect on sperms of working male workers and may cause disorders of reproductive and endocrine functions.
