By observing leaf color change and measuring leaf temperature, G / L value, stomatal conductance, water content and so on, we investigated the effect of cut off the leaves of Maple Grove in Japan on the morphology and physiology. Compared with other shapes of leaves, palm leaf vein of American maple leaves more sensitive to the main veins cut. Severe water stress caused by the main veins cut off, showing permanent reddish leaf color or local early red, low stomatal conductance and high leaf temperature. The main veins cut leaves can be divided into non-stress zone, transition zone and stress zone, these three parts showed different colors and leaf temperature. Main line of defense clear boundaries. The permanent redness or redness caused by the cut-off of the main veins seems to be similar to the red-top phenomenon of some Liquidambar formosana trees and may have a similar mechanism.
