比较文学作为一种跨越性的文学研究,面临着两重对话:跨文化对话和跨学科对话。跨文化对话是为了在理解互释中实现不同文化背景下的文学的融通。而跨学科对话,目的是为了寻求文学与其他艺术、学科间的汇通,在互证、互识、互补中,相互促进。跨学科对话的实现,需要在跨文化的视野中,一方面弄清文学及其他学科在人类文化知识架构中的位置及其演变,另一方面清理不同文化背景下各学科知识体系的概念范畴、话语规则。只有把跨文化与跨学科研究结合起来,跨学科研究才有坚实的基础。
