A recent study of how the brain responds to surprises shows that unexpected surprises can obviously make the center of pleasure in the brain more active than expected happy events. Researchers at Emory and Baylor College of Medicine used a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scanner to measure changes in human brain activity when subjected to a sequence of happy stimuli. They used a computer-controlled device to spray fruit juice or water into the mouths of 25 study subjects in a regular or random fashion.
