Future millimeter wave radar and communications systems will require phase control components. Many of these require the use of phased array antennas. This article discusses the levels of two types of ferrite phase shifters, and describes two plans to improve the performance of millimeter-wave phase shifters and reduce the cost of millimeter-wave phase shifters. One is about the arc plasma spraying method for manufacturing a ferrite ring. This article lists the experimental data at 35 Gigahertz, 65 Gigahertz, and 94 Gigahertz. The other is the non-reciprocal phase-control element with full waveguide bandwidth and the design and test data for the 26.5- to 40-GHz phase shifter.
