Flotation of fine particles less than 5 microns in diameter and flotation of liquid separation liquids is often characterized by a bubble generation method that is different from that employed in diffusion air machines used in mineral flotation. In flotation cells, the conditions of the sorting zone are generally more dynamic than the static conditions that are absolutely necessary in fines and liquid flotation. An example of static flotation using very fine bubbles is the Trona Lithium Flotation Plant in California, which was manufactured for 34 years and was discontinued in 1978. This article reviews the development of this process and the operation of industrial flotation in Trona. More than twenty-five years have passed since the method of decontaminating oilfield brine from floating oil from brine. This article describes the equipment recently involved in the Prudhoe Bay oil field and Alaska pipeline.
