The Changing Market I. Increasing Consumption The high economic growth after the second half of the 1980s changed the markets of ASEAN countries. The surge in sales of durable consumer goods shows this. There is a clear relationship between the popularity of durable consumer goods and the level of income. As incomes rise, durable consumer goods will be popularized. Both Japan in the mid-1960s and South Korea in the late 1970s achieved the rapid popularization of durable consumer goods excluding motor vehicles at a time when the per capita GDP of both countries was about $ 1,600.
