Serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) isoenzymes and malondialdehyde (MDA) were detected in 87 patients with cerebrovascular disease (CVD). The activity of erythrocyte SOD (RBC-SOD) in 34 patients was detected, The relationship between them was discussed. The results showed that the activities of serum total superoxide dismutase (SOD), Mn-SOD and MDA in serum were significantly higher than those in normal control group. There was no change or significant decrease in CuZn-SOD activity and RBC-SOD activity in control group. The correlation between T-SOD, Mn-SOD and MDA was positively correlated (r = 0.9323, P <0.001; r = 0.9215, P <0.001) There was a significant negative correlation between changes of MDA (r = -0.8861, P <0.001). Suggesting that these changes can be used as an important parameter to judge the development and severity of cerebrovascular disease.
