Introduction The total power consumption of high-capacity, high-speed LSI storage systems can reach several kilowatts or more. Also considering the thermal resistance, to integrate more memory cells in an LSI for low cost and high reliability, each consumes very little power. For high-speed bipolar memory cells, both of these factors make its power dissipation around 0.5 milliwatts or less practical. To date, much effort has been made to reduce the power consumption of bipolar memory cells without affecting their high speed performance
