A pioneer in the software industry, Silicon Valley legend Philippe Kahn, who was once known for creating Borland in the early 1980s, has long been a prominent player in high-tech fields. Recently, he once again become the object of attention because of the achievements of wireless technology. When he founded Starfish Software in the late 1950s and sold it to Motorola, Kahn’s new Crystal LightSurf Technologies (www.lightsurf.com) started to become the focus of the industry. The company hopes to be able to deliver digital images of large-format image files to the Web quickly on wireless devices. Its products include a chipset and system software integrated with digital imaging technology, in addition to a basic electronic trading architecture serving them.
